Pop of color
Using colors is a fun way to make organization and time management more engaging. Not only are they a great way to stay organized, but colors can help with focus and staying on task. Colored pens, colored fonts, highlighters, and colored sticky notes are great supplies and tools to use both on the computer and on paper.
To-Do Lists
Use a highlighter to organize your tasks by category. Highlight your errands in yellow, cleaning in blue, phone calls in green, etc. Use different color sticky notes to differentiate personal from work tasks. Use red, yellow and green to rank urgency.
Calendars
Different colored pens or fonts can help you organize your time on your calendar. Keep your color choices consistent so your brain connects the color with the task. At quick glance you can see how your time is allocated when you color code your appointments by the type of work they involve.
Project Management
If you are working on several projects at the same time, assigning a different color project file for each one will make fast work of finding the one you need. The whole reason color-coding works is that it allows you to visually and quickly identify items by category.
Purpose
You can also color-code based on the meanings of certain colors. Here are some ideas:
Red: Urgent tasks, or tasks that require a lot of energy
Orange: Long-term, big-picture tasks
Yellow: Enjoyable tasks that promote positivity
Green: Financial tasks
Blue: Tasks that require focus
Purple: Creative tasks
Pink: Self-care
Colors help ignite your senses, draw your attention, and stimulate your brain. Whether for personal or professional use, colors can be a valuable tool to help with organization and focus.
